Welcome to the Office of Academic Testing

Our mission is to guide you through CUNY’s testing requirements so that you may achieve your academic goals.

All incoming students are required to take the CUNY Skills Assessment Tests in reading writing and mathematics, unless you meet the exemption criteria set by CUNY. You will be automatically scheduled to take the test and should receive a testing appointment in the mail a few weeks after you have received your acceptance letter.

Here are some tips to aid you in this process:

  • It is important that you take the test on your scheduled appointment date!
The sooner you test, the sooner you can get started on planning your academic career with us. If you are unable to make your scheduled appointment date, call us and we will schedule you for another date.
  • Samples of the test are available on the CUNY web page for you to review!
The test is important to your academic career here at City Tech. Prepare yourself by looking over the information and sample material available for the reading, writing and mathematics exams.
  • On the date of your test, be sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled test time!
The extra few minutes will give you time to check in for the test, and allow you to feel at ease in the testing room.
  • Make sure you bring the following items with you on your test date!
Please bring your testing letter, a number 2 pencil, a blue or black ink pen, and your social security number with you! Also, in order to take the test you are required to show photo identification, so please remember to bring one.
  • A one-time retest in Reading and/or Math is available for students testing for the first time who did not meet proficiency.
For further information you may contact the Testing Office. (Note: Writing Retests are not available.)
  • If you have any questions contact us.
The Testing Office staff is available to answer all the questions and concerns that you have regarding the testing process, so make sure to call, email, or drop by the office.
