Steps to apply for Graduation in CUNYfirst

Eligible students who fail to apply for graduation by the deadline, or who apply late, run the risk of not having their names included in the commencement program. Eligible students who file their degree applications after the specified graduation filing date as specified in the Academic Calendar may have their degree awarded at the next conferral date.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Our Commencement Ceremony is an event that is held once a year in June to celebrate those students who are candidates for official graduation. For information regarding the Commencement Ceremony, please visit www.citytech.cuny.edu/commencement.
  • Official Graduation is completed by submitting an application for graduation to have an audit processed on your academic record by the Registrar’s Office. This audit makes sure all degree requirements have been successfully fulfilled.

If you have a course exception for your major, your advisor will need to submit an official document (DARR) to the Registrar's Office before the end of the semester.

Our graduation auditing process begins once we receive the semester's final grades and the process takes approximately one month to complete. You will receive official communication via your preferred email account indicating our final decision.

If you are applying for any degree or major other than the one listed on your CUNYfirst account, you must upload a Graduation Application to the Registrar Portal.

If you are in the bachelor's program and are applying for the associate degree, you do not have to do anything. If you are currently in an associate program and are taking classes towards another degree, you must upload a Application for Change to Major to the Registrar Portal. Please see our Academic Calendar for our deadlines.

Once you receive your congratulatory email, your degree is visible on your official transcript. You can order your transcript online here.
